The Mind/Body Connection of Yoga

Yoga is a great low-impact exercise, one that helps establish balance of both mind and body. There’s no doubt that the poses and deep breathing practiced in each class are great for overall well-being.

But did you realize that yoga also improves physical health and strength?

Yoga group exercise classes are more than just stretching and relaxation. There are no movements without purpose, and each instructor-led posture (or pose) focuses on breathing and body position to promote a specific health benefit.

In addition to body awareness, breath control, and stress reduction, yoga also helps with muscle tone, flexibility, posture, and balance.

Benefits of Yoga

Yoga is a workout that almost everyone can enjoy. Instructors are on hand to guide and modify postures so they are accomplished without injury or strain.

It’s a gentle but strengthening exercise that every age can enjoy and feel good about, especially new moms; patients recovering from surgery, accident, or injury; older adults adjusting to the stiffness and pain of arthritis; and those experiencing the chronic pain of multiple sclerosis (MS), fibromyalgia, and lupus.

People experiencing anxiety and depression may also find relief as they focus on breathing, self-care, and a calm, clear mind.

With improved strength and flexibility, yoga plays an important role in pain management, relief of muscle tension, and an overall sense of well-being.

Shall I Try Yoga?

Yoga may not be for everyone, but it’s a group fitness experience that also lends motivation and support. Deep breathing, stretching, and strengthening in the company of others can be a calming and rewarding experience.

Isn’t that worth a try? Especially today in the midst of all the health, work, and financial stresses we face. An hour of peaceful presence can help clear your mind for renewed focus and improved health.

Concerned about unattainable and uncomfortable poses? We get it. Instructors are there for guidance and to ensure a comfy and enjoyable experience.

Don’t be shy, give yoga a try! If you’d like to know more about this incredible workout, call us at Freedom Fitness. We’d love to hear from you!
