After the stress and strain of pregnancy, labor, and childbirth, exercise is more important than ever. Even if you’re feeling too overwhelmed and fatigued to think about it, working out can help you recover more quickly. According to the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG), exercise offers numerous benefits to new moms, both physically and emotionally. Exercise will help you feel more energized, get better sleep, and help you feel healthy and strong as you face the challenges of motherhood.
Are you ready to hit the gym again?
First, ask your doctor how soon you can head back to the gym after baby is born. Then decide how often you’d like to exercise. With equipment, group classes, and amenities to help you relax at our fitness centers in Corpus Christi, here are a few ideas to help you get back into your routine.
Cardio Training
Cardio is one of the best beginning activities for returning moms. You can start slowly and gradually increase your pace with our selection of treadmills, bikes, and stair steppers — which can be adjusted for speed and resistance. Aerobic exercise is one of the best ways to get your heart pumping and oxygen circulating.
If you’re feeling a little self-conscious, you can workout with privacy in the women’s only area of our gyms.
Group Exercise
Sometimes it’s just more fun to workout with a group. Zumba is a great way to exercise, and dancing to the Latin rhythms is sure to make you smile! Yoga is another great group class, perfect for gentle stretching, deep breathing, and relaxing. Check the group schedule of the Freedom Fitness location nearest you and pick the class you’ll enjoy most.
Personal Training
If you’re just getting back to the gym after time away, a great place to start is personal training. Our knowledgeable personal trainers work with members, one-on-one, for a customized experience based on ability and comfort. Some of your new routine may include functional exercises for improved core strength and stability. Exercising with equipment like ropes, kettlebells, and resistance bands can help prepare you for daily tasks like lifting baby (along with a cumbersome diaper bag and stroller) or heavy bags of groceries.
Other amenities
- When it’s time to relax and tend to sore muscles, hydromassage therapy at our Corpus Christi health clubs help relieve tension and improve circulation. Take a few minutes just to settle back and unwind a little.
- When baby’s old enough to come with you, Freedom Fitness also provides onsite childcare starting at age 6 months.
We look forward to joining you during this exciting time of life, and we’re prepared to help you adjust to the lifestyle changes about to happen. We’re ready when you are!
