Nutrition On-the-Go

6 Quick & Convenient Snack Ideas from Freedom Fitness

Good nutrition can be quite a challenge, especially for those of us with hectic schedules. The good news? There are plenty of portable snacks that pack a punch when it comes to nutrients. Whether you’re headed to work, school, or our health clubs in Corpus Christi, these on-the-go munchies will keep you energized and full.

Here are a few of our top picks.

Fresh Fruit

Not only is fruit easy to pack and transport, but it also provides essential vitamins and minerals. Apples, oranges, bananas, and grapes all make great snacks, especially pre-workout, due to their high levels of carbohydrates and natural sugars.

Homemade Trail Mix

If you’re looking for something a little more filling, create your own trail mix. This way you’ll know exactly what’s going into it — no added sugars or preservatives here!

A good mix should include nuts like almonds or walnuts, and dried fruits like dates or figs. Throw in some dark chocolate chips for an extra energy boost and you’ve got yourself a delicious snack!

Protein Bars

Protein bars are a convenient option if you don’t have time to prepare anything else. To ensure you’re getting enough fuel without the empty calories, read the labels and look for bars with at least 10 grams of protein and fewer than 10 grams of sugar.

Yogurt is a great source of protein. Choose plain yogurt over flavored varieties (which tend to have more sugar) and top with your favorite fruit, nuts, or seeds for extra crunch.

Veggie Sticks & Hummus

Veggies sticks with hummus make a great on-the-go snack. Dip carrots, cucumbers, or celery sticks, in your favorite flavor of hummus for a low-calorie snack that’s full of vitamins and minerals.

Smoothies are another great way to get all your nutrients on the run. Combine fruit, Greek yogurt, and nut butter if desired – pour into a cup and pop in a straw – and there you have it! For even more convenience, some of our Freedom Fitness locations offer Smoothie King refreshments.

There are plenty of healthy options available that don’t require much effort — yet still provide essential protein and nutrients. Why not give these suggestions a try next time you’re looking for something healthy in a hurry!
