Beginner’s Guide to Working Out

Getting Started at Our Corpus Christi Gyms

Ready to start hitting our gyms in Corpus Christi on a regular basis? Congratulations! The benefits are numerous, and you’re about to embark on a journey that puts your health and wellness front and center.

For those just starting out, there are a few things to consider first. Consistent gym time can be a challenge, especially if you’re new to fitness and unfamiliar with the gym — and all sorts of reasons can prevent you from sticking to your plan: busy schedules, family duties, or just plain discouragement. We understand! This blog post is for beginners just starting out (or maybe returning to the gym after a long absence), and we’ll outline some tips to help you get moving and motivated!

Fitness 101

  • Start with Realistic Goals
Let’s talk about what brought you to the gym in the first place. Successful weight loss? Stronger, leaner muscles? More energy?

One of the most important things you can do at first is identify what you’re trying to accomplish — and set realistic goals. It’s great to be ambitious, but if your initial goal is too grand, you may get discouraged and give up.

Start with smaller, more achievable goals. Can’t run on the treadmill for 30 minutes? Start with 20! Gradually increase length of time, intensity, or number of reps, and we guarantee you’ll feel more accomplished!

  • Find the Right Exercise
Low impact workouts are the best place to start, especially if you’ve been away from the gym or sedentary. An unhurried walk on the treadmill, a slower pedal on the bike, or a group class like yoga – all are great ways to ease into the gym.
  • Pack the Right Gear
Make sure you have the right essentials to ensure a safe, comfortable workout. Good shoes are a necessity, and you may want to get comfortable workout clothes. It’s also a good idea to pack a water bottle and towel so you can stay hydrated and clean up after your workout.

Personal training is another great place to start, with customized guidance based on goals and fitness level.

So, there are the basics. Remember to start slowly, set realistic goals, and choose the right workout. With a little hard work and dedication, you’ll be well on your way to fitness!
