Been a Minute? Get Back Into Your Workout Routine

Your Fall Comeback Starts Now

Maybe summer got busy. Maybe work took over. Or maybe working out just hasn’t been high on your list lately. Whatever the reason, getting back to the gym sometimes feels harder than starting in the first place.

But a new season is a natural time to switch things up. As summer winds down and schedules start to settle, fall gives you a chance to leave old routines behind, set a new rhythm, and start fresh.

The biggest mistake? Trying to pick up exactly where you left off at our gyms in Corpus Christi.

If you’ve been away for awhile, your strength and endurance may feel different after a break, and that’s normal. Instead of making your first week back your hardest, use it to rebuild the habit.

Finding Your Workout Rhythm Again

You don’t need to jump right back into daily workouts. Starting with two or three days a week gives your body time to adjust while helping you rebuild the habit of going to the gym.

Keep those first workouts manageable, too. A focused 30-minute session can be more useful than pushing through a long workout that leaves you too sore to return for days.

What Should Your First Workouts Look Like?

Focus on the basics. Combine strength exercises that work your major muscle groups with some cardio, and gradually increase the time or intensity as you feel stronger.

You can also try a group fitness class if having an instructor and a set workout makes it easier to get moving again. And if you want to have some fun while you’re at it, Zumba is a blast!

Most importantly, don’t worry about matching what you used to lift, run, or do. Your starting point today is the one that matters.

Give Yourself a Goal Beyond “Getting in Shape”

A clear goal can make your workouts easier to plan. Maybe you want to build strength, have more energy, improve your endurance, or simply move more each week.

If you’re unsure how to turn that goal into a workout, personal training can help you create a plan based on where you are now — instead of where you think you should be.

Don’t Skip Recovery

Your body adapts to exercise between workouts, which makes recovery an important part of getting back into fitness.

Give yourself rest days, stay hydrated, eat well, and get plenty of sleep. You can also work recovery options into your routine, like red light therapy at our Calallen gym, o help you feel refreshed and ready.

So, What’s the Best Way to Start Again?

Start with less than you think you need. Choose a few days you can realistically commit to, give your body time to adjust, and build from there.

No need to wait for January. Pick a day, grab your gym bag, and come back to our Corpus Christi gyms this fall!
